Free Quilt Pattern – Happy St. Patrick’s Surprise
To all you quilters out there, Happy St. Patrick’s Day! The last time I posted one of my quilt patterns for free, I had a video to go along with it. Lately things have been so busy that I don’t really have time to make a video for this pattern, but here’s the link to download this pattern along with some notes about materials and assembly:
Download the free St. Patrick’s quilt pattern (pdf file).
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 3/4 yard for background
- 1 1/2 yard for backing
- 1/4 yard for orange
- At least a 1/4 yard for binding (more if you choose a 2.5″ binding)
- 1/3 yard for the border
- 1/8 yard medium green (about a piglet)
- Craft size batting
- Thread to blend with top quilt
If you take a close look at the picture of the completed quilt, you’ll see there is some embroidery. That’s a touch you can add or leave out – it’s up to you. I chose to embroider Love, Faith, and Luck, because that’s what St. Patrick’s Day means to me.
As for choosing the colors, I chose Orange for the Protestant Irish, Green for the Catholic Irish, and White for the peace between them. Whatever colors you decide to use, make sure you choose them in the right order. Start by picking the color in the center of the shamrocks, then a white for the background, then a contrast or darker print for the cornerstones and final border.
Assembly is nearly the same as the steps involved in the Valentine’s Day Quilt Pattern, so take a look at that video and post for some help. Of course, you can always send me an email if you have questions.
I hope you like my pattern – Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
