Free Valentine’s Quilt Pattern Mosaic Hearts

I designed this pattern a few years ago, and I really like it. It’s simple and fun to make - you can probably make it with fabrics you have laying around. It’s also easy to customize and personalize. I think it makes a nice anniversary present too.

Fabric Requirements:

  • 1 dozen piglets (9″ by 22″)
  • 2 1/4 yards from selvage to selvage
  • Craft size batting
  • Thread to blend with quilt top
  • 3/4 yard for backing
  • 1/4 yard for binding
  • 1/4 yard for border
  • 1/8 yard for accent strip from selvage to selvage

Some Tips:

Color selection is one of the hardest things about this pattern. Make sure you take your time before choosing them. Take a look at some close-ups of the fabric I used in the video.

This is a great pattern for beginning quilters - I’ve taught it in many of my beginner’s quilting classes.

You can add some pizazz by appliquéing photos to the inside of the hearts, or in the corners.
